My Little Climbing Room (Exclusive Media Preview and Giveaway)

I remember a time a few years ago (honestly not too long ago) when both Jah and Bella would look forward to their next session at an indoor playground almost every weekend. Of course this usually meant that the poor parents (us) had to crouch, crawl and bend through the average 2 hour session. We have almost stopped visiting indoor playgrounds entirely in recent time because these bones are getting older and the kids now don’t need us to join them but WANT us to join them. But more so because most indoor playgrounds now lack an appeal or a challenge to the now much older JahBella.

When My Little Climbing Room invited us to an exclusive sneak preview of their new attraction for kids activity in Singapore, we thought why not? After all, its been some time since we have been to one of these indoor playgrounds and the concept seems alittle different.

We told JahBella that we were taking them to a ‘climbing place’ and they wanted to go immediately. These monkeys have taken to climbing recently so I was also happy to unleash them while the adults could ‘sit back’.

We got to My Little Climbing Room on a weekend afternoon and there was ample parking at their location (The Promenade @ Pelikat). Yes hooray for the North-East siders because this is just at our backyard..no need to battle the East or Central crowds 😉

Each pre-scheduled session last for 90 minutes and the kids got tagged and suited up as soon as they arrive. As with all ‘dangerous’ activites :p they had to watch a safety briefing video although honestly I think it is really more for the parents to learn how to use the rope system. My Little Climbing Room is literally a room lined with different types of climbing walls, with varying degrees of difficulty and levels of interaction. Kids were given a mission card where they could collect stars for each level of difficulty that they complete. There were also little balance equipments to play with while waiting for your turn or if you just wanted to take a break.

IMG_4618IMG_4621IMG_4628IMG_4640

The session started with the kids all running off to claim a wall and a parent/ adult would have to help belay them or tighten/ loosen their rope as they climb up or come down the wall. Easy peasy for the adults since the kiddos were well pretty light 😉 The kids took awhile to warm up and get their groove. All starting alittle apprehensive and giving very cautionary looks to their parents. Almost as if they were asking, you sure I can climb this? That’s when I realized we probably tell them “no don’t climb” or “please come down” abit too much as opposed to “go for it” or “you can do it”

IMG_4645IMG_4647IMG_4650IMG_4657

By the time the kids were all warmed up, it was time for a ‘break’ (for the parents that is ;p). The staff at My Little Climbing Room took over for the next 30 minutes and starting playing games with the kids. Lights out, music on and let the games begin! The kids were going crazy! Screaming! Squealing! Laughing! Running! Climbing! Oh this is going to get them nice and tired. 😀

IMG_4658IMG_4664IMG_4668

The kids went back to their climbing routine after the games and if you think they were too tired for more climbing by then. Think again! The kids all seemed to have this sudden renewed appreciation for climbing and they all somehow went higher and did better. Jah and Bella almost didn’t want to leave when it was time to go.

Verdict

Jah is 6 years old and most of the walls were right up his alley, save for a few harder challenges where he really had to push himself in order to complete. But they honestly challenged him more than they deter him. In fact, we were almost at the end of the 90 minute session when he realize he still had a few missions to complete. He was almost resigned to coming back another day but suddenly found a new burst of energy and yes he completed it and claimed his prize.

IMG_4682

Bella who is 4 years old, was able to complete most of the Level 1 challenges and hung out a lot more at the interactive walls such as the number wall and the obstacle course wall. She didn’t complete her mission list but was totally chill about it because she had so much fun!

If you are wondering if your kid is too young for this, the answer is no. My Little Climbing Room caters to children below the ages of 4 too but it will just mean that they have to take baby steps to scaling each wall but still an awesome introduction to the world of climbing!

My Little Climbing Room has just opened their doors to the public 2 weekends ago. If you are thinking of heading down to try the place out, we would doing an online booking first to make a reservation. As there are fixed slots throughout the day and each slot can take up to 15 children, it would be best to have a slot secured so that you don’t end up waiting around for the next slot. Admission is free for one adult, with every paying child and $5 for an additional adult.  For more details, check out https://mylittleclimbingroom.com/

SofzSleep Pillow Review + Promo + Giveaway!

Jah has been using his ‘baby/kiddy’ pillow(s) for the longest time. Yes, I can’t even remember when we bought him the pillows but it has become 2 very flat pillows. Thinking about it now, I feel rather bad for making the poor boy put up with such uncomfortable pillows. Pillows that were too flat to be used in singles but too high to be stacked up in pairs. 😦

So when I heard about the Sofzsleep pillow I was really excited to let Jah try it and I couldn’t wait to ‘set it up’ for him in his bed.

Junior Pillow (S)

Junior Pillow (S)

I initially had problems convincing him to just try out the pillow and lie on it. You know how kids are sooooo resistant to change! :/ But once he put his head down on the pillow, it didn’t take a lot of convincing to get him to relinquish his old pillows.  🙂

Woooo

Woooo

The Sofzsleep Junior Pillow is made from natural latex and it is highly durable and able to retain it shape for years (no fluffing needed). It provides a really good support for all sleeping positions and has a contour design that can gently cushion the head while cradling the neck. I no longer have to worry if I am placing Jah too high or too low on his pillow and his head naturally falls into the ‘groove’. The pillow also has anti-microbial and dust mite resistant properties which makes it ideal for young children. The Junior Pillow comes in 2 sizes (S and M) and at 3 years old, Jah uses a Sofzsleep Junior (S) Pillow which will be suitable for him till about 5 years old.

Jah absolutely loves how soft the fabric of his Bamboo cover is and in fact Jah calls it his ‘soft pillow’, how apt! (true story!). The bamboo cover is an ultra cooling cover despite it feeling rather ‘thick/ plushy’, it is perfect for Jah whose head perspire a lot when he sleeps.

Jah started having such good sleep from his new pillow, that not only did we decide to get another one for Bella (who has been using her poor flat infant size pillow since birth) but Joel and I got really jealous of him and decided to get the Adult Range for ourselves. The Adults range has a really wide selection to fit and accommodate all sleep types and preferences. We decided to give their Contour Pillow a try which is apparently ideal for back and side sleepers and because we never had a contour pillow before. Lets just say I think I hear less snores now, possibly because I am sleeping so much more soundly. 😉

GIVEAWAY and Review – Christmas Bakes from Berries & Batter

We chanced upon Berries & Batter on Instagram last Christmas and were super wowed by how yummy their home baked treats were.

This Christmas, Berries & Batter will be bringing us 12 items from their Christmas Menu! Some are good old favourites of ours while some are new treats that we can’t wait to try.

They were also very kind to put together a simple taster for us to do a taste test and review for our readers. 🙂

White Chocolate Matcha Blondies with Macadamia, White chocolate bits and Cranberries

This is my absolute favourite!!! What are blondies I asked Joel and then after some thought he said “I think it’s the opposite of brownies!” :p For me, these blondies are the perfect combination of a chewy brownie and a gooey cookie. For those who are concerned about the Matcha/ Green Tea taste, I didn’t quite know it was there. But the nutty crunch from the macadamia and the fruity taste of cranberries were there in almost every bite! These blondies come in cube sized portions which makes it perfect for sharing with a loved one or eating all on your own (like I did) 😉

Blackforest Tart: Chocolate Crust, Chocolate Pastry Cream, Cream and Cherries

I am not really a fan of blackforest and definitely not a fan of cherries but I didn’t read the description before eating this tart and I’m glad I didn’t. This tart has to be eaten chilled because the chocolate is just the right consistency when eaten fresh from the fridge unless you prefer it alittle warmer and runnier. The blackforest and cream lends it just the right amount of fruitiness and creaminess. It was also a good balance of sweet and chocolate ‘bitterness’, perfect!

Salted Caramel Tart: Salted Caramel Mascarpone Cream and Salted Caramel Sauce

For those of you who love the taste of burnt caramel, this will be your tart. It is totally different from the blackforest tart I had just before tasting this, but still just as good. I would also recommend eating this chilled because the salted caramel sauce tends to liquidized. Perfect size for sharing between 2 or 3 people especially if you are intending to try more than one flavor of tart. 🙂

Speculoos Cupcake: Vanilla Cupcake with Speculoos Spread Crumble and Speculoos Swiss Meringue Buttercream

I’ll be honest here, I only ate one spoonful of this cupcake because Jah insisted on having everything else!!! He ate two whole cupcakes and while this boy is a cupcake lover or he likes the idea of a cupcake, he never finishes more than ¾. Oh and before you discount the cupcake because the review was done by a 3 year old, let me tell you that this boy has a pretty good palette 🙂 and he was exclaiming yummy! This is good! with every mouthful he took. Oh and for a fan of chocolate cakes/ cupcakes, he has now declared that he will only have vanilla cupcakes in future. Thanks Berries & Batter! 😉
