We were very excited to finally embark on our longest flight yet (5 hours) with the kids (Jah at 2.5 years old and Bella at 10 months old). We were even more excited that it was a trip to Perth, the place where Joel and I spent most of our long distance dating years aside from his school breaks in Singapore. We were looking forward to revisiting some places (this time with 2 kids!) and to explore new places that we never considered visiting when we were dating. We had a jam packed 10 day holiday with almost a different activity planned for each day and even then we only ‘contained’ ourselves to within a 1 hour driving radius from our accommodation. So whoever said that Perth is boring, will have to talk to me again or well read our upcoming posts because I can tell you that we barely scratched the surface!
A list of the main attractions we visited (which I will have to break up and cover in subsequent posts) but here’s a snapshot for reference. 🙂
- Swan Valley Caversham Wildlife Park
- The Maze
- Penguin Island, Rockingham
- Trigg Beach (Family Photo Shoot)
- Lansdale Farm School
- Kings Park (Lotterywest Family Park)
- Swan Valley Cuddly Animal Farm
- Adventure World
- Hilarys
Since it was the kids’ first trip to Perth, we decided that we would base ourselves out of one location and not attempt to move multiple times. Our usual road trip to Margaret River was a very tempting thought but we decided not to stress ourselves out with a 4 hour road trip, with kids who couldn’t stand being in the car for long periods. We chose to stay at the Four Seasons House which we found on Airbnb (our first time using the Airbnb portal). The 4 bedroom house is a 10 minutes drive away from Fremantle however it has good amenities around it. There is a small bakery (D’Bella Bakery) with awesome pies and an IGA supermarket, just a 5 minutes walk away (though we drove there everytime :p). We also found a Kmart located in a nearby suburban mall, about 5 minutes drive away and we essentially did all our shopping there. It was a wonderland for us with all the wide kiddy product range, we went crazy!
Our accommodation was exactly what we expected and more. There were 4 bedrooms – 1 master bedroom with an ensuite toilet for Joel and I, 1 guest room with a queen bed for Jah, another guest room with a queen bed for Bella and our nanny and a 4th room which we left empty as per the rental agreement. The house had a spacious living area, a well equipped kitchen, a garden with a electric BBQ grill, a laundry room and an entertainment room with a pool table. The kids loved the fact that they had such a big living room to roll around in and there was a wonderful selection of children DVDs (it is also here that Jah developed his love for the Gruffalo and Fireman Sam). A playpen and high chair was also provided and a wide collection of children toys was also available for the kids to choose from and that truly kept them entertained! Phew! In fact Jah officially declared the house, his holiday home and refused to leave at the end of the holiday!
The proximity to Fremantle was perfect for us to grab dinner which was exactly where we went after we had offloaded all our luggage at the house and completed our grocery stock-up for the next few mornings. We were worried that the kids would be cranky by now (7pm), given that we left the house at 7am and they barely slept on the flight. But our fears were unfounded as Jah and Bella seemed to enjoy the fresh air, cold wind and yummy fish and chips at Kaili’s – Fremantle (we actually found ourselves at Kaili’s 3 more times before our trip was over). We were all tired but really happy to be on holiday and of course super excited for the days to come.
