Whisk and Paddle Review – Tebing Lane

One would think that we would have discovered this café/ restaurant a lot earlier, given that we live almost right next to it and it has been opened for almost 2 months now. I guess this kinda shows that we haven’t exactly been on our family bike rides much in recent times.

Jah and I chanced upon Whisk and Paddle on Saturday morning when we took a Mummy-Son bike ride. Joel’s bicycle had somehow ‘come apart’ that morning, a combination of his annoying bike tyre problem and Jah messing up the bicycle chain while we were trying to solve the tyre problem. The result being, Joel and Bella were relegated to a morning at the playground (Bella was very pissed off) and Jah insisted that Mummy stuck to the original plan and took him to the park for a ride.

Whisk and Paddle is located at Tebing Lane, with a view of the park and the waters. It would have been a perfect morning outing for mummy and son but ermm mummy didn’t bring any money with her so we were resigned to coming back at another time with papa and little sister.

We decided to come back on Sunday evening for an early dinner with the other half of the JahBella team. The restaurant does not take reservation on weekend evenings so we did a walk-in. At 6pm, the place was already half filled with the other half of the place fast filling up. We chose to sit further at what I call the family friendly seating area, long tables with sofa benches. The other seating area consisted of more traditional café like tables and chairs. There was a small play area with a tent and some toys to keep the kids occupied. The play area was right smack between the two seating areas which in my opinion was perfect! Rather than have the kids play at some corner where only parents seated at those corners could see what was going on. Having kids right in the middle meant that they could have lots of light and they could spot their parents no matter where they were seated. 🙂

We ordered Eggs Benedict with Smoked Salmon and Ham for the adults and a Bolognaise Penne for JahBella to share. We wanted to try the chunky fries with truffle mayo but it wasn’t available. We also order a Piccolo Latte, a Babycino, a Crunchie Honeycomb Milkshake and a warm Chocolate Fudge cake with Ice cream. One word sums up our food experience..yummy! Jah was very happy with the food and he was also very happy with the old school snack corner. 🙂

The food plus the laid back ambience, blue skies and fresh air really completed our wonderful weekend. Our kids are very much like us…give them crappy food and we will get very cranky kids. Give them a good ambience and yummy food and we have the sweetest kids ever. :p Suffice to say, our kids were extremely happy and cooperative that day.

We will definitely be bringing the kids back to try more, in fact I think there might already be plans to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary with the kids there this weekend.

Hokey Pokey – Seletar Mall

JahBella have been to several indoor playgrounds before but they have never visited Hokey Pokey. So when we found out that they had open an outlet near to us and even nearer to our upcoming new place, we were keen to find out if it could become one of our regular spots.

We arrived at the newly opened Seletar Mall at 10am and there was no lack of parking space (although I heard from my sister that the parking gets very full towards the evening). Hokey Pokey is an indoor playground for babies from 6 months old to young kids up to 6 years old. None of the tedious climbing and crawling through tunnels for us old bones but I was worried that the activity level would be too mild for my active 3 year old.

The entry fee on weekends are $26 for 2 hours of play and upon a quick survey of their environment and facilities, we decided to ‘invest’ in a member’s package. The annual package cost $58 and it consists of 2 free sessions (day of purchase and during birthday month). It also included 1 free soft drink per visit (perfect for the thirsty parent) and discounted rates of $16 on weekends for 2 hours of play. We were also given a sibling discount for our 2^nd package at $38! As we signed up during their Christmas promo, we bagged an additional session + a free Christmas goodie bag and a nice box of cupcake and Christmas cookie. It was a really really nice gesture!

JahBella were the first kids there and they were blown away by the variety of toys there! There was a section with huge trucks, cars and Starwars characters which Jah could not tear himself away from. He alternated between that corner and another section with cars and ramps. Bella, on the other hand was all over the place, from the ball pit to the princess corner, from Thomas the train ride on a ramp to the kitchen corner. She played with everything!

Not a huge space but the variety was huge and the toys were so new!

There were so many rides available – personally I find this Crayola ride super cute!

For the hungry parent or kids, there is a small café with a few tables and bar counter that overlooked the play area so you are never too far off from your child.

The two hours past really quickly and while the kids were not totally exhausted and thank goodness neither we were, they really enjoyed themselves. The ‘mild’ activity level was not a concerned because they were kept so occupied. The only problem would be prying them away from their newfound favourite toy or finding a way to say no to their request to buy a certain toy.

Jah declared that he would like to come back soon and yes I am pretty sure we will be.

Family day out at the National Stadium – Suzuki Cup 2014

We have been wanting to visit the new National Stadium for awhile now so when we found out that the Suzuki Cup Group match between Singapore and Thailand was on over the weekend, we had to grab tickets. We also made it a big family outing with The ‘Village’ aka JahBella’s uncles and aunties.

Even though we had purchased pre-sold parking at S$10 per entry and it guaranteed us a parking space. We still decided to head down earlier to avoid any traffic jams and to grab some dinner. I think this is especially useful if you are heading for a big/ sold out match.

While there were tons of food options at the Kallang Wave Mall and Leisure Park Kallang, finding a seat was extremely difficult. That said, there was no shortage of open spaces around the stadium so we did takeaway and found ourselves a big open space to take in the view. Jah and Bella were so happy with the open space that they were running around and grooving to the live band music coming from the Suzuki Cup fringe activities area. Absolutely hilarious to watch!

We headed into the stadium at about 715pm. Getting in was a breeze, everything was clearly marked and nicely spread out. Tons of concession stands inside so we were not stuck in major queues. Every seat had a little vent near its leg so the place was nicely ventilated with cool air. My sister told me that the seats higher up have vents closer to the butt area. 🙂

Even though we had to leave after the first half because it was way past the kids bedtime by then. The kids really had an awesome time in fact Jah was fussing all the way to the carpark that he wanted to go back in. He was still very much in the mood and banging his little ‘clappers’ (not sure what you call them). Take note that no re-entry is allowed so please don’t step out if you are not intending to leave.

Seeing the kids all ‘grown up’ and enjoying the ambience so much, makes me wish I could get tickets to next year’s SG50 National Day Parade. Maybe if I wish hard enough, some balloting luck will come my way!! :p

Definitely a tiring end to a Sunday but we all know Sunday’s with family is always the best!

DC Comics Superheroes Singapore Cable Car

We have been wanting to go for the DC Comics Superheroes Cable Car ride for some time now. Ok I’ll admit, Jah and I have been wanting to go for some time and Joel on the other hand has been hesistant. So given that it was Joel’s birthday, we had to make sure that he felt extra ‘special’ :p

Trick Eye Musuem – Sep 2014

We found ourselves at the Trick Eye Musuem on Sunday. Was initially a little skeptical if the kids would enjoy themselves, given that they are so young and Jah prefers selfies (which is not doable at the trick eye Musuem)

To be honest it was a little stressful for me. Trying to usher a kid to the ‘right spot’ and then trying to get Joel’s attention, to come snap a pic (sometimes to find the moment has passed and the kid especially Jah is no longer willing) sigh… I was sweating buckets and was exhausted.
