Hairy Maclary and Friends – Review

We caught Hairy Maclary and friends today! Jah’s third play of the week! Unlike the first two plays (The Very Hungry Caterpillar and the Nightingale), Hairy Maclary and friends is an interactive play with music, song and dance.

For children who have read the Hairy Maclary and friends series of books by Lynley Dodd, the show is a must see! I wished I had introduced these books to Jah before this so that he could have been more familiar with the characters and gotten more involved.

That being said, this has been the most ‘involved’ I’ve seen Jah. He was following the actions, clapping to the beat, making the sounds required and even started doing his own little dance at some point! Pure joy for a parent to see! To be honest I think even the adults enjoyed joining in with the sounds and actions! :p

Jah has now assigned a character to each family member and he only does that when he is super taken by a show. Yes and of course he is the main character Hairy Maclary! :p

So for those who would like to catch Hairy Maclary and Friends, there is still time. 5 more shows over the next 2 days (11 and 12 Oct 2014)

For those who are familiar with Julia Donaldson’s Stickman, that show is also on this weekend. While tickets for Kidsfest 2015 are now also open for sale. We will be catching our favourite Gruffalo in January, can’t wait!
